About Joe Sarkic
My Story
Growing up in Canada, my fascination with the universe and technology started early, heavily influenced by Star Trek and the rise of personal computers. These influences sparked my imagination about what technology could achieve in the future. This passion led me to pursue bachelor’s degrees in Physics at the University of Waterloo and Computer Science at the University of Ottawa, seamlessly blending these fields.
Throughout my career, I’ve developed innovative solutions across various domains: from working as a research assistant in artificial intelligence and conducting research in digital signal processing for the oil industry, to developing networking protocols for the phone industry and contributing to software and systems engineering in support of Canada’s defense industry.
Today, driven by my realization that AI is quickly becoming ingrained in every aspect of our lives and that we have only begun to uncover its potential, I delve into machine learning and neural networks, constantly asking, “How can I leverage AI to improve my daily tasks?” As Fei-Fei Li, Stanford Professor and AI Researcher, aptly stated, “AI won’t replace humans, but humans using AI will,” highlighting the need to understand how society will harness AI’s potential. This journey inspired my first sci-fi novel, Veil of Dawn’s Promise.
Personal Life
After a demanding day at work, I find solace in spending time with my family. My wife and our two wonderful teenage children bring endless joy and adventure into our lives. We reside in a quaint house in the suburbs of a major city, a haven that offers respite from the hustle and bustle of urban life. Our home is a place of warmth and comfort, where we bond over family games, movie nights, and cooking together.
Whenever I get the chance, I love to travel with the family, exploring new places and experiencing new cultures. These adventures fuel my creativity and provide a welcome break from routine. When travel isn’t feasible, I delve into SciFi and Fantasy books, losing myself in worlds beyond imagination. I also dedicate time to writing my own stories, following a long-overdue dream, weaving tales that take me on journeys and adventures crafted from the depths of my own imagination.
